Honeycomb paper replaces bubble wrap

Honeycomb paper is an increasingly popular alternative to bubble wrap in packaging. Discover the advantages of this efficient and sustainable material. Find out why it is used at Tributus.

At the heart of Tributus' mission is sustainability, a commitment that is reflected in the way it works and in the entire process of creating medals, trophies, and other types of awards, from the range of materials to the packaging. It is in this sense that our company has stopped using bubble wrap to protect the awards inside the packaging and during transport, and has opted for honeycomb paper. But what is honeycomb paper and why is it a more ecological, efficient, and aesthetic alternative?

What is honeycomb paper?

It is a kraft paper structure designed to absorb impacts and reduce or prevent damage to parts or products during storage and transport. Lightweight and resistant, this structure resembles a honeycomb, hence the name honeycomb paper.
When it comes to packaging, honeycomb paper is one of the alternatives to bubble wrap for filling and cushioning—let us explain why.

Impact and thermal protection

Although both bubble wrap and honeycomb paper are effective at absorbing impacts and protecting products, honeycomb paper also offers thermal insulation and moisture resistance.

Efficiency of use

On the other hand, the three-dimensional structure of honeycomb paper allows it to expand when pulled and become moldable, that is, it adapts to the shape of the products. This means that it wraps items better with less material and avoids the use of other materials such as adhesive tape or additional paper. Bubble wrap, on the other hand, requires more layers to wrap products.

Versatility

Because it protects against impacts, temperatures, and humidity, honeycomb paper is used in the packaging of products from a wide range of sectors, from food to Tributus awards.

Storage and logistics

Here too, honeycomb paper wins out over bubble wrap, which is bulky and takes up space in storage. Honeycomb paper is compressed into rolls and only expanded when the packages are being packed.

Environmental impact

Honeycomb paper is a 100% recyclable and biodegradable material that is easy to recycle. Bubble wrap, on the other hand, contributes to the increase of plastic waste in the environment and requires additional costs to be disposed of responsibly.

The costs

Although honeycomb paper is more expensive than bubble wrap, the fact is that the advantages it offers contribute to reducing final costs and waste.

A estética

Finally, honeycomb paper has an elegant aesthetic that enhances the packaging and adds value and meaning to the products, in this case, the awards, whether medals or trophies.

Aware of all these advantages that honeycomb paper offers and conscious of its mission, Tributus could only opt for a practice that actively contributes to minimizing environmental impact and adds value to its range of products, customers, and their events.
