On December 6 and 7, 2024, the Epic Trail Run Azores by Decathlon will take place, a demanding physical and technical challenge that tests the endurance of the most experienced athletes in the lush green setting of São Miguel Island, in the Azores archipelago.

What is Epic Azores by Decathlon?

The Epic Trail Run Azores by Decathlon is a trail running event that takes place on the Azorean island of São Miguel. The race routes cover the terrain of the island's three main volcanic mountain ranges: Serra da Tronqueira, the Fogo volcanic massif, and Sete Cidades.
Created in 2015, Epic Azores has been organized by the Portas do Mar Association and the Azorean Off-Road and Tourism Club (CATTT), with the support of the Metralhas Sports Club and the Morcegos Trail Club. It has also had the support of prestigious athletes Alcino Pires, Bruno Fernandes, and Luís Onça, who have taken on the technical direction of the races in different editions over the years.

The Epic Azores by Decathlon races

The Epic Trail Run Azores comprises four competitive races:
• EPIC 100, an Ultra Endurance race covering a distance of 100.7 km and 5,830 m D+;
• EPIC 60, a Trail Ultra race covering a distance of 62.6 km and 3120 m D+;
• EPIC 30, a Trail race covering a distance of 33.2 km and 1820 m D+;
• EPIC 15, a Trail Sprint race covering a distance of 15.1 km and 720 m D+.
Athletes will run along trails through lush green landscapes bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, on routes that will take them from the village of Nordeste (EPIC 100), the village of Furnas (EPIC 60), and the village of Água de Pau (EPIC 30 and 15) to the finish line in Vila Franca do Campo.
