The 2024 Picos do Açor Challenge returns on December 14 and 15 for another edition filled with adrenaline and fresh air. Athletes and trail running enthusiasts will share the unique experience of running along the trails of the Serra do Açor in the municipality of Arganil.

The 2024 edition of the Picos do Açor Challenge

This edition features races for athletes of all levels and is open to everyone, including children ages six and up. The races for athletes are:
• the 32 km Picos do Açor Challenge with 2,000 meters of elevation gain;
• the 18 km Picos do Açor Challenge with 1,000 meters of elevation gain;
• the 13 km Picos do Açor Challenge race with 550 meters of elevation gain.
The races open to everyone are the 13 km Açor Walk with 350 meters of elevation gain, and the Açor Trail Kids, for children and young people aged six to 15.
The race routes pass through some of the villages of the Serra do Açor and include trails that have been used for centuries by generations of local residents, offering an opportunity to experience landscapes of rare beauty.

About the Picos do Açor Challenge

The aim of organizing a trail running event in this region was to combine a passion for running in nature and on challenging trails with an immersion in the region’s cultural, historical, and natural heritage.
The Picos do Açor Challenge has been organized by Evolução Vertical and is supported by the Arganil Municipal Council and the parish councils of Arganil and Folques.
Running parallel to the sporting event is ExpoTrail Açor, an exhibition of regional products and sports equipment.
Just as in the 2023 edition, this year the organizers of the Desafio Picos do Açor also made a point of using eco-friendly and sustainable medals produced by Tributus to award to athletes and participants, based on their final standings.
