The historic heritage of the city of Évora, in the heart of the Alentejo, serves as the backdrop for the already prestigious Évora Half Marathon, while the Merrell Trail Running Series takes place amid the natural landscapes of the Saloia region, on the outskirts of Lisbon. In this article, we’ll explore what the 2025 editions have in store.

The 9th Évora Half Marathon

This is one of the most iconic track and field events in southern Portugal and will take place on November 22 and 23, 2025, in Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city. The Évora Half Marathon has been held nine times and is organized by the Évora City Council, with technical coordination by HMS Sports.
The event features five races: the 21.1 km half marathon, the 10 km run, the 5 km family walk, the Run Kids for children ages 3 to 12, and the Breakfast Run, a free 5 km race at the Évora Sports Complex. The race routes will start and finish at the famous Praça do Giraldo, taking participants through the city to explore its historical heritage. Alongside the races, the Évora Half Marathon Fair will also take place, a joint initiative with local businesses.

The 2nd Merrell Trail Running Series 2025/26

This is a trail running series consisting of five stages, or events, taking place between November 2025 and April 2026 on trails in various locations throughout the Lisbon district. Thus, this 2nd edition of the Merrell Trail Running Series will feature:
• the Atlantic Cliff Adventure, in Cascais, on November 16, 2025;
• the 6 Cascatas Trail, in Cheleiros, on November 30, 2025;
• the Lousa Mountain Trail, in Loures, on January 18, 2026;
• the Mafra Trail Adventure, in Mafra, on March 8, 2026;
• and the Sintra Monte Trail, between Sintra and the Tapada Real de Mafra, on April 19, 2026.
Each of these events or stages offers participants races of different distances and levels of endurance or experience. In parallel, there will be environmental awareness activities and social areas for athletes and their companions.
