For trail running enthusiasts and, in particular, for those athletes who enjoy the challenge of competition, 2024 is off to the best start - with one of the country's most emblematic and popular events, the Trilho dos Abutres. This year, the event will take place on January 26, 27 and 28 in Miranda do Corvo, the town that has been hosting the competition for 12 years.

Trilhos dos Abutres, the trail running competition

This is a national trail running competition consisting of a series of races in the Serra da Lousã, Portugal, aimed at Portuguese and foreign athletes. They will run along trails in the mountains, through the Schist Village of Gondramaz and past the Vila Nova Wind Farm Astronomical Observatory and the Senhora da Piedade staircase. As for the races, they are
- o Utra Trail Trilhos dos Abutres, on a self-sufficient basis, with 50 kilometers and 2500 meters of positive gradient;
- o Trilhos dos Abutres, self-sufficient, with 30 kilometers and 1500 meters of positive gradient;
- the Mini Trilhos dos Abutres (Vulture Trails), on a self-sufficient basis, with around 20 kilometers and 835 meters of positive gradient.

The 12th edition of the competition

In addition to the competitive races, the Trilhos dos Abutres event offers other non-competitive events designed to encourage the public to exercise and promote contact with nature and its preservation. This year's event will feature
- the José Godinho Junior Trail, aimed at school-age children;
- the Inclusive Trail, which will run through the center of Miranda do Corvo and is aimed at people with various disabilities (motor, hearing, visual and mental).

Expotrail 2024

In parallel to the sporting event, and as in previous editions, Expotrail will take place: a unique space that shows the public running gear, products and services related to the world of trail running, as well as regional products.

The Vulture Association and the Vulture Trail

Trilhos dos Abutres is organized by Associação Abutríca, a sports association from Miranda do Corvo, in the district of Coimbra, which organizes and promotes activities in various disciplines such as futsal, downhill, mountain biking, trail running and motor sports, among others. With 20 years of existence, the Abutríca Association launched the first edition of this trail competition in 2011.
