Évora recebeu mais uma edição da Meia Maratona de Évora, uma grande festa do desporto que este ano trouxe novidades e atraiu milhares de visitantes a este Património Mundial da UNESCO.
The Évora Half Marathon took place on November 25 and 26, 2023, and brought the city’s streets to life, particularly in the historic center, which has been designated a World Heritage Site since 1986. In this edition, alongside the competitive races, there was a new addition—Run Kids, designed to encourage physical activity among the youngest participants, specifically children between the ages of 6 and 12.
About the 2023 Évora Half Marathon
The Évora Half Marathon is a major sporting event for the municipality of Évora that has been organized for several years now by the Évora City Council and HMS Sports. The event itself has included three races, along with a full range of support services for athletes, such as official training sessions organized by the Évora City Council at the Évora Sports Complex. In this 2023 edition, another race was added: the Run Kids, designed for children.
The races of the Évora Half Marathon
This sporting event featured four races, all of which started at Praça do Giraldo and followed routes through the streets of Évora:
• the 21.1-kilometer half marathon;
• the 10-kilometer race;
• the 5-kilometer walk, in which families and people of all ages participated;
• and Run Kids, a race for children ages 6 to 12, with courses of 300, 500, 700, and 1,000 meters.
The Évora Half Marathon Festival
More than just a sporting event, the Évora Half Marathon is a celebration that involves the entire community and encourages visitors to explore the heritage of the municipality and the region.
Thus, for the general public, the organizers prepared entertainment along the route that included dance and live music, with performances by Tuna Académica, Zé Mendes, fado singer Rute Belga, the group Vozes do Alentejo, among others.
Visitors from out of town had the opportunity to visit the Água de Prata Aqueduct, the Chapel of São Brás, the Church of São Francisco, the Convent of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, the University of Évora, the Roman baths at the City Hall, the medieval wall surrounding the city, and, of course, the famous Roman temple, among other points of interest.
The 2023 edition of the Évora Half Marathon was, once again, a huge celebration, demonstrating the unifying power of sports. To celebrate and honor the effort and dedication of the athletes and non-competitive participants, a ceremony was held to award medals, trophies, and prizes. These items were produced by Tributus.
