The natural setting of the Cantabrian Mountains serves as the backdrop for one of the most intense and iconic competitions on the international trail running calendar, the GTPE – Gran Trail Picos de Europa, which will take place on June 28 in Benia de Onís, in the heart of Asturias, Spain. In this article, we tell you all about the 2025 edition of this event, which attracts athletes from all over the world with its demanding technical trails and the breathtaking landscapes of the Picos de Europa.

The Gran Trail Picos Europa and the 2025 edition

The GTPE – Gran Trail Picos de Europa is a mountain running event that crosses the western massif of the Picos de Europa in Asturias and is part of the UTMB World Series. Organized by the Associación Deportiva Onis and the Ayuntamento de Benia de Onis, the GTPE includes races of various distances and levels of difficulty, allowing both high-performance athletes and less experienced runners to participate:
• the Ultra GTPE, 70 km long with an elevation gain of 5080 m;
• the 48 km race with an elevation gain of 2550 m;
• the 35 km race with an elevation gain of 2090 m;
• the 22 km race with an elevation gain of 1490 m;
• the Speed Trail, covering a distance of 10 km with an elevation gain of 580 m;
• and the Cronoescalada, a climb to Pico Pandescural;

Beyond the competition

The GTPE was designed to offer not only the challenge of running in one of the most magnificent landscapes in Europe and the world, but also moments of conviviality between athletes, family, and the public, with cultural and agrotourism activities, such as visits to farms and cheese factories, hiking and bird watching, local cuisine and crafts, among others.

The GTPE – Picos de Europa is more than just a mountain race; it is a challenge that combines technique, nature, community spirit, and appreciation of the heritage of the Asturias region. These characteristics inspired Tributus in the development of the trophies and medals for this event.

Just as we did for GTPE, at Tributus we are prepared to create pieces that symbolize the spirit of your event. Get in contact us to find out how.
