On October 20, the Paredes Multipurpose Pavilion hosted (and filled!) the usual Sports Gala, an event organized by the Paredes City Council especially to honor the talent and dedication of all those involved in sports, whether athletes, clubs, organizers, or managers.

The ceremony honored clubs in the region, their leaders, and 170 athletes across 15 sports, namely: martial arts and combat sports, handball, athletics, boccia and petanque, cycling, pigeon racing, adapted sports, motor sports, soccer and futsal, gymnastics, golf, roller hockey, figure skating, water polo, and chess. The tribute also included the Ethics and Values in Sport Awards and the High Prestige Awards.
The Sports Gala was attended by personalities from various fields, including:
• Vítor Dias, regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth;
• Mário Cachada, ambassador for the National Plan for Ethics in Sport;
• Pedro Mortágua, director of the Sport-Friendly Municipalities Program;
• Olympic athletics champion Fernanda Ribeiro;
• Hélder Postiga, vice president of the Portuguese Football Federation;
• José Neves, president of the Porto Football Association;
• Delmino Pereira, president of the Portuguese Cycling Federation;
• José Luís Pacheco, president of the Porto Cycling Association;
• Agostinho Silva, Deputy President of the Portuguese Skating Federation;
• Catarina Silva, Vice President for Rhythmic Gymnastics;
• Bernardino Silva, President of the Porto Athletics Association;
• Vítor Cardoso, Porto Chess Association;
• racing driver Miguel Barbosa;
• and former cyclist Cândido Barbosa.

To the Mayor of Paredes City Council, Alexandre Almeida, the Sports Gala represents an incentive for the honorees to pursue their goals and achievements. "We are extremely proud of these Paredes residents who represent Portugal."
