Cork: On the Podium with Tributus Awards
Did you know that cork is a global symbol of sustainability? Find out how to make it to the podium and set an example with the Tributus AwardsFew materials represent Portugal as well as cork. In fact, it has become an icon of national identity and is now a global example of sustainability. That is why Tributus simply had to include this material in its range of eco-friendly materials to produce creative and responsible solutions for awards, medals, and trophies with exclusive and personalized designs. In this article, we’ll show you why cork is so special.
After all, what is cork?
Cork is the natural bark of the cork oak, harvested by hand—a process that in Portugal generally takes place between May and August. Cork is a renewable and recyclable raw material whose cellular structure gives it unique properties—strength, lightness, water resistance, elasticity, thermal and acoustic insulation, and an unmistakable texture. It is also biodegradable and burns slowly and non-toxically.
What makes cork a unique material?
The uniqueness of cork lies in the fact that the cork oak is a tree that regenerates naturally after harvesting, and can be harvested multiple times throughout its lifespan (up to 200 years). Harvesting is done every nine years in order to preserve the tree and ensure the sustainable production of this unique material. Cork is, therefore, a natural material that is 100% renewable and recyclable.
And because of its unique characteristics, it is also highly versatile—it is used in various sectors, ranging from the wine industry to the automotive industry, in architecture and construction, in design and fashion, kitchenware, sports equipment, and Tributus, at the awards ceremony.
Sustainable beauty and aesthetics
The unique characteristics of this natural resource—cork—allow us to develop solutions tailored to the image of each event or brand without compromising our respect for the planet. Thus, whether the style is more conservative or more contemporary, at Tributus we are able to create pieces that stand out for the aesthetic appeal and beauty of a raw material rich in meaning.
