It is in the Top 10 of the World's Ultimate Running Race ranking, which selects the most iconic races in the world. It is the 'End of Europe Race', which took place on January 28 this year and whose prizes were produced by Tributus.
The ‘Corrida Fim da Europa’ (End of Europe Race) is one of the oldest running events held in mainland Portugal. Its unique characteristics have earned it a place in the Top 10 of the World’s Ultimate Running Race book, published by the famous Harper Colling Publishers, and in the ranking of the world’s most iconic races. Set in the protected area of the Sintra Cascais Natural Park, the race has been held for over 30 years and attracts thousands of athletes from all over the world. This year was no exception.
The race setting
The stage for this major sporting event, the 'End of Europe Race' is the Sintra Cascais Natural Park, which, together with the town of Sintra, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Every year, athletes, especially those from abroad, have the opportunity to run and explore the unique beauty of this protected area covering 14,450.84 hectares.
The race and itinerary of the 33rd edition
The race started in the village of Sintra, and from there the athletes covered a total distance of 16,945 meters on challenging trails in the natural park, climbing and descending kilometers flanked by imposing trees. The finish line was located next to the Cabo da Roca lighthouse, another icon of the region and the country, which marks the westernmost point of Europe.
The Sintra City Council, in partnership with Podium Events, are the organizers of the 'End of Europe Race' and in this 33rd edition they have opted for ecological and sustainable prizes produced by Tributus, in a clear and committed commitment to sustainability.
