For the fifth consecutive year, Cape Verde promoted the Cape Verde Trail Series – The Islands Experience initiative, a three-stage circuit that takes place on three islands of the archipelago and in three different settings: Fogo Island, Santo Antão Island, and Santiago Island.
The Cape Verde Trail Series, what is it?
The Cape Verde Trail Series – The Islands Experience is a walking and trail running circuit that takes place in three stages: the Fogo Vulcan Trail, the Santo Antão Triangle Trail, and the Santiago Trail.
Vulcan Trail Fire (VTF)
It is the first stage of the Cape Verde Trail Series (CVTS) circuit and takes place on the island of Fogo, in a lunar landscape where athletes are challenged to enjoy the unique experience of running along the volcano's trails. In this stage, there is a walking event and four events for different trail run levels: long trail and short trail (which score points), youth trail, and kids trail. This year, the Fogo Vulcan Trail took place on July 15 and 16, and in 2024, the date has already been set: March 1, 2, and 3.
Santo Antão Triangle Trail (SATT)
The island of Santo Antão hosts the second stage of the CVTS circuit, challenging athletes to discover its impressive mountains and deep valleys. The route passes through three municipalities with different landscapes and terrains. As in the previous stage, the Santo Antão Triangle Trail also includes a walking event and trail run events at different levels: trail run, youth trail, and kids trail. The Santo Antão Triangle Trail took place on September 29 and 30, and October 1, 2023. The organization has not yet announced the dates for 2024.
Trail of Santiago
Finally, the circuit concludes with the stage on Santiago Island, the Trail d'Santiago. In this third stage, and this year, there are only trail run events: long trail and short trail. To be held on December 8 and 9, 2023, registration is still open.
About the Cape Verde Trail Series
Cape Verde Trail Series – The Islands Experience is an initiative of the Cape Verde Institute of Sport and Youth, the Cape Verde Institute of Tourism, and the company In Totum, in partnership with the Cape Verde Athletics Federation. The aim is to promote the Cape Verde brand, its natural resources, and its low-density territories through tourism and sports, namely walking and trail running. The intention is to reduce the disparities between islands and meet global trends in sustainable development.
As with other trail running events and other sports, those who walked or ran the CVTS circuit received participation and classification prizes – such as the one made by Tributus for the stage that took place on the island of Santo Antão.
Made from cork, this prize is an example of the use of eco-friendly and sustainable materials in the manufacture of medals, trophies, and prizes, an area in which Tributus specializes. We are constantly researching and investigating materials, techniques, and resources that enable our company and our customers to grow sustainably and reduce their environmental footprint. It is our wish that athletes, families, and younger generations continue to enjoy unique and breathtaking landscapes such as those of the Cape Verde archipelago. So, if you are part of a club, association, or sports event organizer, and you are looking for personalized medals, trophies, and awards, make a responsible choice and opt for eco-friendly materials— talk to us now.
