Monte Gordo is preparing to welcome visitors and athletes from across the country and abroad who will be participating in and watching the iconic Monte Gordo Bay Race, a sporting event that has been held in the western Algarve for 25 years and is scheduled for August 4 this year.

The Monte Gordo Bay Race

The Monte Gordo Bay Race is an athletics event co-organized by Grupo Desportivo Pic-Nic and the Municipal Councils of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, with the close collaboration and support of the Algarve Athletics Association and the National Maritime Authority.

The race stands out from other events because the entire course is run on the beach, covering a distance of 8 kilometers. Athletes will start from the western end of Monte Gordo Beach and cross the finish line at the first concession on the eastern end.
The race is open to athletes over the age of 18, whether federated or not, registered in teams or individually, and according to various categories as set out in the regulations.

About Monte Gordo

Located in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, Monte Gordo was a small fishing village that began to attract the Portuguese and foreign aristocracy and upper middle class as a summer resort as early as the 1930s. The beauty of the beach surrounded by a vast pine forest, the warm and safe waters of the sea, the mild climate, the existence of a casino, and the tranquility were decisive factors for personalities seeking to go unnoticed, as was the case with the famous actress Ingrid Bergman.
