August promises to be an exciting month for sports fans in Portugal, thanks to two events that have won over athletes and spectators alike over the years: the Monte Gordo Bay Run, which brings excitement to the eastern Algarve, and the iconic Tour of Portugal cycling race.

The 26th Monte Gordo Bay Race

On August 2025, the 26th edition of the Monte Gordo Bay Run will take place, a track and field event held entirely on the beach, covering a distance of about 8 kilometers that starts at Manta Rota Beach, passes through Altura Beach, Verde Beach, and Retur Beach, and ends at Monte Gordo Beach, on the coast of the Vila Real de Santo António district.
Over its 26 years of existence, this race has won the hearts of both locals and visitors, and each edition attracts more and more participants drawn to the relaxed atmosphere of running on the beach, by the sea.
The race has been co-organized by the Pic-Nic Sports Group and the Municipal Councils of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, and with the support of the Algarve Athletics Association and the National Maritime Authority.

The 86th Tour of Portugal

This is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events of the national sporting summer, bringing to Portugal prestigious international teams and the world’s most renowned cyclists, such as Van Aert, Pogacar, Vingegaard, and João Almeida, among others, and drawing huge crowds at every stage. This year, the Volta will tour the country from August 6 to 17, 2025.
